A new walking tour of Helmos
We’re piloting a new educational mountain tour to take you on a journey. We know Climate Change can feel far away and abstract, especially when we are somewhere so beautiful, surrounded by nature. So we’ve been exploring how local stories and past mythologies can help us understand our relationship with the environment. We’ll also share with you how research leads to a better understanding of Helmos and how it and our wider world is changing.
We are creating a local group of citizen-scientists who will co-design and run a project to measure local air quality with support from Demokritos’ scientists and specialist scientific instruments. Participants will learn how to plan a science experiment, collect data, and present results back to the community and relevant science networks.
The research station
NCSR Demokritos’ research station at the top of Helmos Mountain, close to Kalavryta, gives us a focal point for local citizens and visitors alike to learn more about climate change, scientist and citizen-led research and actions we can take in our own lives. You can find out more about why the station exists, how they collect data, and how it is subsequently used by international networks and researchers. By learning more about the process of scientific research, we can connect what it tells us to our own lives.
